Information: Blair, 31, was shot to death May 12, 1995, after he and his partner got out of their patrol car at a park in Lynwood to question suspected gang members, one of who was seen tossing away what later was found to be a loaded pistol. Two days later, one suspect in the shooting surrendered to deputies in Lynwood. He was cleared in the shooting. The day of the funeral, Gov. Pete Wilson announced the addition of $100,000 to the reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of Blair's killer.
Information: Deputy Barthel was shot while investigating a group of suspicious males. He and his partner were assigned to the Sheriff's Special Enforcement Bureau and were assigned to patrol a housing project. Deputy Barthel and his partner were walking up to a group of males when they threw drug paraphernalia into the bushes. As Deputy Barthel's partner went to pick up the drugs, the shooter opened fire from across the street with a rifle, striking both deputies in the face and torso.
Information: Deputy Andrews was shot and killed during a robbery attempt at a service station while he was off duty. A suspect tried to rob him in the gas station's restroom and shot him when he identified himself as a law enforcement officer. The suspect stole Deputy Andrews' service weapon and department identification before fleeing. The suspect was arrested, convicted of Deputy Andrew's murder, and has since been released from prison.
